41 – Israel: When a Sacred Word Was Turned Into a State

Few words in the lexicon of religious history have suffered such a calculated and systematic narrowing of meaning as the word "Israel"; today, it is almost universally, and quite erroneously, understood as referring to a modern nation-state in the Middle East, often treated as a synonym for a specific ethnicity or a narrow geopolitical project. When one strips back the layers of modern propaganda to return to the origin of the word itself, it becomes blindingly clear that the contemporary understanding captures only a withered fragment of its original, expansive spiritual essence; the word "Israel" did not begin as a line on a map or a rigid ethnic label, but as the moniker of a man who underwent a visceral and transformative encounter with the divine.
